Overview

Firefly Pico is a streamlined companion web application designed to simplify transaction tracking with the Firefly III finance manager.

Background & Motivation

For years I tracked expenses using proprietary mobile apps. When I began self‑hosting, I sought an alternative that offered equivalent functionality while retaining full control over my data. Discovering Firefly III—and its robust REST API—sparked my interest. I set out to create a web app that feels as intuitive and responsive as a native mobile experience.

Design Goals

Ease of Use: Minimize the steps required for expense entry.
Data Integrity: Preserve the ability to use tags, categories, and generate detailed reports.
User Adoption: Convince even my partner (the “Wife Approval Certification”) that this tool is worthwhile.

Current Implementation

Firefly Pico is built with Laravel on the backend and Nuxt on the frontend, delivering a lightweight transaction assistant that blends seamlessly into your existing Firefly III workflow.
